What are some good potted plants for fall/winter in Auburn, AL?
I have three 5 gallon pots, three 3 gallon pots, and two approximately 3 quart hanging pots.
I would like to plant some flowers that will last through the Alabama fall and winter, and longer if possible, like maybe some different perennials.
I’m not planning to plant now (but I can if need be), and would like suggestions as to when I should plant.
The goal is to have flowering plants around Christmas because I’m having family over and the potted plants will be on the porch, which is usually very bland. (This is the first family Christmas that I’m hosting, so I want everything to look nice).
I will have poinsettias for Christmas but am looking for other flowers/plants that will look nice, aren’t so “seasonal,” and will last.
Finally, as it says in the question and just to help out, I’m in Auburn, AL. Auburn is in the middle of the east side of Alabama near Columbus, GA, Tuskegee, AL, and Phenix City, AL.
Winter Honeysuckle, Mums are great I plant those in the fall and they live a long time! Begonias will probably live through Chistmas that far south. Any kind of miniature evergreen tree. I have a couple of those in planters and at Christmas I put the little mini lights on them and decorations. I live in the same region as you and I have good luck with these plants in the colder months. Oh yeah, Pansies love cold weather and can live through frosty tempatures.
